About the Founder

Gerardo Hernández Cortés was born on February 6th 1986 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. He was raised in San Sebastián and lived part of his youth in New York. He became interested in music at a young age.

At age seven, he began studying music with various professors in private classes and crafted his first flute at eight years of age out of a pvc pipe. He later enrolled in the music school Escuela Libre de Música in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. He studied Music Performance in the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico with a minor in history.

Gerardo Hernández plays various woodwinds musical instruments, the saxophone and many other ethnic instruments. He has a collection of more than 100 ethnic wind instruments and offers conferences to students and musicians in Puerto Rico, combining his knowledge on the many ethnic instruments.

He has appeared in numerous television and radio programs as a soloist and has participated on International Festivals in cities like: Chicago, San Diego, New York City, Havana, Cuba, Sevilla, España and Puerto Rico.

This talented musician has been invited to participate, along with other great musicians and bands such as: La Sonora Ponceña, Isidro Infante, Elias Lopez, Prodigio Claudio, Jose Valentino, Junior Carrillo, Victor Echevarria, Waldo Sanabria, Pancho Irrizarry, Ceferino Cában, Ricky Santiago, Tito Puente Junior, Frances Karim Chiroque, Danny Rivera and many other great musicians.

He has been distinguished in the musical scene for his versatility in genres such as Jazz, music of different world cultures, Popular, Latin, Electronica and Flamenco music.

Gerardo is very well known for his artisan abilities, specially crafting instruments for worldwide musicians such as: Orlando Maracaballo, Anders Bostrom, Jose Valentino, Nick Metcalf, Danny Rivera, Simon Fernández Sanchez, and Jose Vega among others.

Gerardo participated in musical productions such as: Omar Santiago En Diez Tiempos. Entre versos y café de Nilsen Mattei. Kike Domenech, Fernando Sanabria, among other artists. He was also a guest solo artist at the 50th anniversary of the Sonora Ponceña.

Within the last five years, he created and patented the first Puerto Rican Flute, launched his first musical album, Gerardo Hernández Cortés (Ethnic winds), which has 10 tracks, 5 original and 5 covers with distinctive ethnic flutes, a transverse flute, soprano and alto saxophone. His album also includes solos from well known artists.

Gerardo is happily married the love of his life, his soulmate, Luz. They have two beautiful children together and they dedicate their lives serving God and following The Way of His Son, Yeshua.
